I have 8,000 miles on my 2003 Civic SI. A few days ago after starting my car the Maintenance Req'd light flashed for five seconds after starting the engine. The light only flashes for five seconds and then goes off. I have changed my oil and checked all fluids under the hood since this started. Any ideas? I have heard there is a reset button, or a way to reset this light. Thanks!!

I read my owners' manual. It told me what to do. Thanks!!

ha, never even saw this thread...it's just telling you your 10k mile maintenace is coming up, I guess, too lazy to look in the manual.

I double checked with my dealership when my light came on and stayed constant, they told me that if I did my own maintenance to just keep receipts but to bring it in at 30K for what reason he didnt say. I havent looked at the owners manual yet but will when I get to around 25K
to Reset just push and hold the trip meter button and start the car continue to hold the button until the light goes off.
Mine started to come back on after the first reset around 17K (flashing for 10secs after start)
then progressed to a steady on light. Then I reset it again
Anyway glad we could help

I never take my car to the dealer for maintanance, just do it yourself and keep a log on all the work you do. I bought a little "date minder" book and I write down all the work and the date of the work I did. The dealer charges WAY to much to just check your fluids and rotate your tires, not to mention you need to leave it for a day.
I've worked at a couple of dealerships, and believe me you won't get a Honda Master Tech looking at your car. Unless you have a big problem, you're going to get the oil change guy working on your car, who most of the time has no more info than a "Fast Lube" guy.
I had a 02 Civic EX before my Si, and I took it to the dealer twice for my free oil changes. Both times they screwed up, once they over filled my engine oil, the manual calls for 3.4 quarts of oil and the guy poured 4 in. Then the next time I was there, they didn't put a new washer on the drain plug, or the old one, and my car leaked oil all over my garage.
I'd only go to the dealer for warrenty work.

Good advice solar! I use My Yahoo Autos to keep track of the work I do on my Hondas < http://autos.yahoo.com/ >.

Dosen't any1 but me use Honda's OWNERLINK??? Any honda owner can sign up for free on the web and keep a log of service on ther car, see schedules for maintenance and be updated on news about heir specific model and even recall bullitans. When a recal was posted on the civic, it showed in my owner link and said my EXACT car was not part of the recall (goes by VIN number), although the listed recall was for civic coupes only anyways... It's really cool. Just goto www.honda.com and click on the OWNERLINK icon. Tey even have a sample tour you can use to check it out before u sign up and your dealer can access your log on the internet if you ever go in for service!!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that Honda service but I see My Yahoo page everyday so that makes it easy to keep up with stuff.
