OK so i drive an 06 coupe i4 m/t and there seems to not be much of a selection for headers except the DC ones.. I was wondering if anyone knows of a brand that makes a race header that bypasses the cat? Maby something like SSR or exe.

what? no lol its an accord coupe hence posting in the accord (cm5/cm7/cl9) section lol.
No worries though i already found the scoop, turns out DC is really the only company that makes good headers. Also comptech TSX headers work and will propblably be what i get.
A RH is not an option because bypassing the cat will throw codes off on stock ECU so w/e...

Ugh, I clicked on new posts and missed the section. Doh!

You're going to be VERY limited on off the shelf units. For the buck, the SSR header is great, but would need to be custom made.

H1,

What did you end up getting? DC? Something else?

Still havnt decided yet but will probably go with the comptech headers for the TSX. But im still debating on headers or TSX IM or UR pullies. What do you guys think will give me the most gains?

I'd say .... get the TSX I'M first and a CAI. This would be less expensive than the header and it does give you a performance boost.

As far as UR pulleys ..... (others can/will correct me if I'm wrong) .... I'm not sure if by UR, you're meaning a set of Under Drive (some are sized different than the stock pulleys to reduce the belt drag on the engine) I don't like some of the trade-offs. Like if the alt. pulley is sized so that it turn less revolutions that the stock one at a given RPM, then you might not be getting all the power that you need for you engine, audio and other electronics. So this option would need a little more research to find out what the pro's & con's are.
Now if UR pulleys are just lighter weight than the stock pulleys ..... I'm not sure what the gains would be, but anytime that you can reduce the rotating mass, that's a good thing.

probably means the unorthodox racing pulleys set. there is a size differential to the UR pulleys vs. stock, but from what i've read, the gains are attributable to lower mass/weight (less rotational mass means they spin faster and help the car rev faster). you can only run aftermarket stereo systems of a certain wattage if you have the pulleys on, otherwise voltage is an issue.

i actually just bought a set. i have a 07 AT TSX, and the thing just revs so slow, probably b/c it's an auto tranny. if this kit can even help improve that, i'll be happy. reading around, it's either people believe in these underdrive pulleys, or people don't want anything to do with them (they argue water pump failure, faster engine bearing wear, etc...).

well i already have a fujita f5 CAI. A few people from 7thgen have done the UR pullies and havn't experienced any such problems. The thing with the TSX IM is i have an 06 so i need the 06 IM b/c they both are DBW. But either way i was hoping with the headers the car would sound a bit more aggressive with the stock exhaust on WOT. Also if i do get the headers a high flow CAT will also go behind them :)
Yes i do mean the Unorthodox Racing Set. Its an underdrive kit that has much lighter pullies with the crank pully being smaller and the other accessory pullies being larger so stock belts can be used.

There's some more info on the TSX IM here:

I'll have to look into the UR pulleys. I don't want any that are under-drive, but some that at are standard size and lighter .... that's something I'm interested in.

for some apps, UR makes crank pulleys that are the same diameter as the stock pulleys, just lighter. unfortunately, i don't think they make them for the TSX.

if they make it for the accord i4 they make it for the TSX.. its the same thing i believe.

I looked but didn't see any standard sized ones for the Accord. But who knows, I could of overlooked them. 8)

i'm pretty confidant it's not available. the set is identical to that of the rsx type-s. if you go to the UR site, there is no option for the stock diameter pulley.

Thanks. Maybe one of these days someone will make a standard size set. 8)

does anyone know if the tsx comptech header will work with an accord? i know it will bolt up to the motor but will there be any modification needed to bolt up with the cat?

It has been done before by one of the member's at gen7accord.com. I think that some custom work had to be done because the length is shorter/longer than the accord. (probably modification to the piping). There are some headers already for accord (ie DC sports, SSR Race header).

i was trying to stay away from the dc sports because ive heard of problems with the flex pipe cracking. im unfamiliar with the ssr race header, any good?

supposedly flex pipe problem has been dealt with by DC with it's v.2 header, but i'm still a little skeptical. every now and then i read about TSX owners with the new version still running to problems with the flexpipe, and this pretty much deters me from wanting to go with the DC.

from all the feedback i've read, the comptech header has very good quailty and build. the only issue is TSX 5AT owners say that there is notable vibration/rattles after it's installed, particularly when idle (at a light, stop/go traffic) or when the A/C is on. something about some harmonic vibration happening at around 675 rpms that causes your car to shake.

a bummer since i have an AT :(

SSR parts are top notch, bar none.
